Mughal Garden located inside the Rashtrapati Bhawan compound, is going to be open tentatively from 15 February for the public. Visitors are allowed to visit the garden on all week days except Mondays. Mughal gardens located inside the Rashtrapati Bhawan compound is designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Lady Harding. Mughal Garden is designed in a Mughal style with a blend of British style consist of Mughal style canals, terraces and fountains. Two channels running north to south and two running east to west divide this garden into a grid of squares; six lotus shaped fountains are situated at the crossings of these channels.
There are two big lawns, the central one is a square and the east lawn adjacent to the building, oblong in shape and about three fourth the size of Central lawn fully covered by 'Doob' grass. This garden have some evergreen plants like Moulsri, Putranjiva Roxburgi, Cypress, Thuja Orientalis and China Orange trees, rose shrubs and a variety of climbers.
There are two longitudinal strips of garden called terrace garden at a higher level on either side of the Main Garden forming the Northern and Southern boundary. The plants grown are the same as in the Main Garden. A fountain which falls inwards is located at the centre of both the strips. Two gazebos are located on the Western tip and on the Eastern tips two ornately designed sentry posts are designed.
Long Garden or the 'Purdha Garden' is located to the west of the Main Garden which runs along on either side of the central pavement which goes to the circular garden. It is a rose garden which has 16 square rose beds surrounded by low hedges. Red sandstone pergola in the centre of the garden is covered with Rose creepers, Petrea, Bougainvillea and Grape Vines and the walls are covered with creepers like Jasmine, Rhyncospermum, Tecoma Grandiflora, Bignonia Vanista, Adenoclyma, Echitice, Parana Paniculata.
The Circular (Sunken or Butterfly) Garden is the westernmost portion of the garden which has bubble fountain in the centre. This called Sunken or butterfly garden as you can see many beautiful butterflies flutter incessantly in the garden. Around the garden there are rooms for Office of the horticulturist, greenhouse, stores, nursery etc. Here only is housed the collection of Bonsais, one of the best in the country.
Parking for the vehicles will be available on North Avenue Road, Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Road, Pandit Pant Marg. Buses will be parked on Vishamber Dass Road. Buses of special invitee schools will enter R.P. Bhawan through Gate No. -17(South Avenue Side) and will be parked near Swimming Pool inside R.P. Bhawan. In addition to above, Saturday, Sunday & Gazetted Holidays Udyan Marg, Shankar Road and Parking adjacent to Talkatora will be available for public.
Visitors are not allowed to carry water bottles, briefcases, handbags/ladies’ purses, cameras, radios /transistors, cell phones, umbrellas, eatables so it good to leave them in your car or submit all these goodies in the locker rooms of the garden.

Mughal Garden is going to be open for public visit from 2 February to 12 March this year. Visitors are allowed entry to the garden from 10.00 AM to 5.00 PM everyday except Mondays or on any special occasion or festival. To reach Mughal garden you can take Metro, nearest metro station to Mughal garden is Central Secretariat which is just 2 kms away from the garden.
