Home remedies for Toothache Relief

Toothache is very painful experience which can happen to anyone at any age. It is a painful sensation that you have while eating, chewing or drinking something. It is so painful that it can affect your daily activities and even will wake up at night. The best way to get rid of this pain is to schedule an appointment with your dentist and got suitable treatment for it as soon as possible.

Toothache Causes
There are many causes for toothache which can happen due to wrong techniques and timings of brushing, some of the common causes of toothache are mentioned below.

  • Tooth decay is very common problem which can happen because of harmful acids secrets bacteria which can destroy tooth enamel and can lead to tooth cavities and tooth abscess.
  • Exposed tooth nerve or root can be the reason of toothache which happens when you have accidentally cracked, chipped or shattered your tooth or when you brush your teeth in a wrong way. 
  • Cracked or fractured tooth can cause severe pain. You can get cracked or fractured tooth because of forcefully bite something hard or when you receive a powerful blow to the mouth.   
  • Wisdom tooth is also a reason of toothache and believe me this is the worst toothache for many of us.
  • Damaged pulp is also the reason for toothache; when the pulp in the inner core of your tooth get inflamed you get toothache which can be felt in the jaw and face.

Home remedies for treating tooth pain relief

Toothache caused by broken tooth or cavities cannot be treated by home remedies completely, you must have to visit your dentist for proper treatments but if you cannot wait to visit the dentist or failed to make appointment with your dentist as soon as possible then these home remedies can help you to get rid of toothache. You can find most of the materials in your kitchen for treating toothache. Always clean your mouth with warm salt water or brush your teeth to remove the food stuck between your teeth or any other impurity.

Spices used to get rid from toothache
  • Clove is very common spice find in every Indian kitchen that can be used for treating toothache for thousands of years. Clove has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties which help in treating many tooth problems and also be used to treat sore throat. Apply a few drops of clove oil over the affected tooth and gums with cotton or by ear bud. It is very strong so you can dilute it with water or with some olive oil. If you do not have clove oil then grinds some fresh clove and applies the powder on the affected area. Repeat the process as necessary but do not use in large quantities as it can harm your gum.
  • Turmeric has antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties which can help you to get rid from toothache. Mix a teaspoon of turmeric with water to make paste, and apply it on the affected tooth with the help of cotton. You can also add some honey in this paste. Chewing of raw turmeric or take turmeric supplements will also help you to get rid from toothache.
  • Salt and pepper paste can be used to treat tooth pain. Mix 1 teaspoon of salt and I teaspoon of pepper with few drop of water to make the paste and apply it on the affected tooth. Pain will be vanished in few minutes.   
  • Mix some sea salt with warm water mixes it well and use this warm salt water to swish it around in your mouth and then rub some oregano oil into your gum to get rid from toothache.

Herbs used to get rid from toothache
  • Garlic is very common herb which is used in many cuisines worldwide. Garlic contains an antibacterial chemical Allicin which makes it suitable in treating many common problems.  To get rid of tooth pain, crush garlic clove and apply it on your affected tooth. For better results you can add a little bit of rock salt in crushed garlic. It slowed down the pain by decreasing the bacteria activities on the affected area. You can also chew raw garlic clove and let it juice flow into the affected gum to get rid from pain.   
  • Raw onion also contains anti-septic and anti-bacteria properties so chew raw onion slice just place a piece of the raw onion on the affected area and hold on it for a few minutes to get relief from toothache.
  • Peppermint is natural pain killer that can kill the bacteria in your mouth. Just put some dried peppermint leaves on the affected tooth or drink fresh cup of peppermint tea to get rid from toothache.
  • Wheatgrass is a natural antibiotic which can kill the harmful bacteria in your mouth, reverse tooth decay, and draw toxins out of your gum. Wheatgrass juice is used as a natural mouthwash. You can also chew on it for its antibiotic properties.
  • Place a thick slice of Cucumber under the affected tooth to get relief from tooth pain.  
  • Chew Guava leaves until the liquid come out and sip into the affected tooth to get rid from toothache. Boil 4-5 leaves in a pot with some water and add some sea salt in it. Use this water as a mouthwash until the pain goes away.
  • Vanilla extract can kill the bacteria on the affected gum. Just put few drop of vanilla extract on a cotton ball and apply it  on the affected area to get rid from tooth pain.

Oils used to get relief from toothache
  • Nutmeg oil is also equally effective to get rid from toothache as garlic. Take one or two drops of nutmeg oil on cotton and apply it on the affected tooth. Repeat the process till you get relief from the pain. 
  • Put a tablespoon Sunflower oil or Sesame oil in your mouth and keep it in your mouth for a few minutes. This not only helps to get rid from toothache but also promotes good oral health too.
  • Oregano oil has antibiotic properties, to get rid from tooth pain place a few drops of oregano oil under your tongue and hold it for a few minutes to get rid from toothache. You can repeat this process after every hour until the pain goes away but do not use in large quantity.
